Recently my mom's good friend Deepak Chopra released a new book called Super Brain. I read it and it is super. I have always been fascinated by the human brain, and for the last 15 years I have read quite a bit on neuroscience and brain research. Quite simply, the human brain is the most magnificent and sophisticated computer in existence. Even the world's most advanced computer is nothing next to the brain. Yet why do we place so much trust in computers and not in ourselves?
After all, even the most powerful computers are only Intelligent Idiots. Why? Because a computer can only do what you tell it to do, and it can only do that because someone programmed it to do so. But the human brain is not like that at all. In fact, it is always doing things for us that we didn't consciously ask it to do. Each of our 50 trillion cells are performing 6 billion actions every second, and without this incredibly complex and dazzling orchestration of actions, we would simply not be able to do many of the things we take for granted, like eating, digesting, walking, talking, thinking, breathing...
Not only does our brain execute all these processes for us simultaneously, it does so effortlessly and with absolute precision and mastery. For me this is Magical. I am in Awe of this. But what is even more awesome to me is that we are only using about 10% of our brains, so what on earth can the remaining 90% do? This question is always with me.. And perhaps one day I will live to see the answer..
There is no doubt that we are all in possession of a Magical Brain, but are we capable of using it to live a Magical Life?
